New WHO Guidance on Recognising Severe Dengue Early
2026-06-21•By Dr. Humaira
The WHO's 2025 Guidelines for Clinical Management of Arboviral Diseases sharpened the warning-sign criteria for dengue, and it's changed how we triage fever cases in clinic this season. Persistent vomiting, abdominal tenderness, and any mucosal bleeding are now treated as immediate red flags rather than 'wait and see' symptoms — especially in children and the elderly. If you or a family member has had a fever for more than two days and any of these symptoms appear as the fever breaks, please come in the same day rather than waiting for a scheduled appointment.
